One person died after eating a McDonald's hamburger infected with E. coli in the United States and dozens of people are being treated.

Local media, including the New York Post, cited an announcement by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that dozens of E. coli infections have occurred in 10 states, with 49 people being treated and 10 hospitalized. An old man died in Colorado.

Authorities said the E. coli variant 'O157:H7' was detected in McDonald's Quarter Pounder Burger.

Most of the victims were also found to have eaten quarter-pounder burgers before symptoms developed.

Most patients are concentrated in Nebraska and Colorado.

As a result, McDonald's told the CDC that it has temporarily suspended sales of its Quarter Pounder Burger in several states and is also collecting onions and beef patties used in the burger.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asked you to visit a medical institution if you have symptoms such as diarrhea, high fever, severe vomiting, dehydration and dizziness.

Authorities said most people infected with E. coli begin symptoms within three to four days of ingestion, and the majority recover naturally after five to seven days without treatment.

However, some people warned that they could develop a serious kidney disease called 'hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS)'.

As of 2023, there are reportedly about 13,450 McDonald's stores in the United States.
