A daughter who became a police officer arrested the killer of her father 25 years ago.

According to Brazilian media such as G1 and La Patilla, Ghislaine Silva de Deus, a 34-year-old detective with the Roraima Police Department, recently caught Raimundo Alves Gomes, 60, who was on the run after being charged with murder. The victim killed was none other than Deus' father.

Gomes killed Deus' father with a gun on February 16, 1999, after an argument in a bar in the city of Boavista.

He fired a gun into the abdomen while fighting Deus' father, who did not pay back 150 real (about 36,000 won) at the time.

Gomes then fled the scene and an arrest warrant was issued, but he was not caught.

However, Deus and his family, who were nine at the time, did not give up their hopes of bringing the killer to justice.

Deus, the eldest of four sisters, began studying law at 18 and became a lawyer seven years later.

After volunteering as a police officer, she began pursuing her father's killer's track record in 2022 and also moved to a local police station.

Eventually, she was able to arrest Gomes on a farm on the 9th (local time).

It is only five years before the statute of limitations expires.

"The arrest of the offender won't bring my father back, but he is serving a sentence that should have been served a long time ago," she said. "I have always dreamed of catching him and putting him in jail."
