According to the New York Post, the pilot of the British Airways plane heading to Dubai filmed a series of missiles being fired.
There was no damage to the civilian airliner flying over the Middle East at the time, but Iran fired missiles without first blocking civilian air traffic around the world, which is controversial.
Airlines scrambled to divert planes over the Middle East as Iranian missiles began firing unannounced.
Planes had to fly north and south across the Middle East to avoid the possibility of a missile strike.
Flightradar data, which provide route information, show that the planes are avoiding Iranian and Israeli airspace.
According to BNE Intelligence News, airports in Iran, Iran, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, and Israel also immediately began suspending flights to and from their airports.
Many of the planes that were already in the sky were diverted to Cyprus and Egypt.
Lufthansa Group, which operates Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings and Swiss Airways, has suspended all flights to Beirut until Nov. 30, Tel Aviv until Oct. 31 and Tehran until Oct. 14, Fortune reported.
KLM Airlines, which departed from the Netherlands, has suspended flights to Tel Aviv until the end of this year.
Meanwhile, Iran said on the 1st (local time) that it had fired ballistic missiles at important military and security targets in central Israel.
The Israeli military said Iran had fired about 180 missiles.
Some Iranian media reported that 80% of the missiles hit the target and 20 state-of-the-art F-35 fighter jets deployed at a southern Israeli air base were destroyed, but the Israeli military did not comment.
Israel also said three people were injured in the airstrike.
