Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital selected the final project to support domestic medical device user evaluation
Oct 31, 2024
Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital (Director Lee Woo-in) was finally selected for the 2024 domestic medical device user (medical institution) evaluation support project. Through this project, Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital will conduct a clinical evaluation of advanced rehabilitation robot treatment for patients with acute and subadult strokes. It will confirm the therapeutic effect of advanced rehabilitation robots developed with domestic technology and actively support domestic medical device companies to advance into the global market.
The domestic medical device user (medical institution) evaluation support project is a national project organized by the Korea Health Industry Promotion Agency. The performance and safety of excellent medical devices developed in Korea are evaluated by major medical institutions, and based on this, it aims to support medical devices to enter medical institutions. Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital plans to verify the effectiveness of rehabilitation robots that support a wide range of rehabilitation from bed to walking for stroke patients and derive performance improvement and effective treatment protocols based on clinical data.
Introduced through a demonstration project, R-BoT Plus (development: Cortras) is a state-of-the-art rehabilitation robot that helps reconstruct muscles and recover joint motion for patients with damage to the central nervous system. It is designed not only to continue lower limb movement while the patient is lying or standing, but also to enable functional electrical stimulation of the lower extremities at the same time. In particular, customized rehabilitation treatment is possible for patients in intensive care units or bed-ridden patients for a long time, and it is excellent in maximizing the recovery of patients' motor function through repetitive and precise motion induction.
Professor Yoo Seung-don of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital said, "The selection of the support project is an opportunity to demonstrate the hospital's clinical trial capability and technology of rehabilitation robots once again. We will do our best to promote the excellence of domestic medical devices and to help severely ill patients recover their health more quickly and effectively through state-of-the-art rehabilitation robots."
Meanwhile, as 'Albot Plus' was designated as a health insurance screening benefit in August this year, rehabilitation treatment was carried out through a rehabilitation robot fee, which could reduce the economic burden.
