The Department of Radiation Oncology at Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital (Hospital Director Lee Jae-joon) recently introduced state-of-the-art cancer treatment device TrueBeam equipment and began full-scale operation.

The equipment introduced this time is the highest-spec radiation therapy device, and the radiation position can be finely adjusted in units of 1mm or less, enabling precise and accurate tumor treatment. Truebeam is known to be easy to treat moving organs, metastatic cancer cancer cell tracking and removal, brain that is difficult to operate, and head and neck cancer.

In particular, radiation output has increased by up to 2.4 times compared to existing equipment, reducing treatment time by about a third, increasing patient convenience. In addition, it is possible to reduce the amount of radiation exposed to normal tissues and focus on tumors to minimize the risk of side effects.

In addition, in order to increase the sophistication of radiation therapy, ExacTrac Dynamic was introduced together for the first time in Gangwon Province.

The device enables real-time tracking of a patient's body surface and posture throughout the entire course of radiation therapy through an image camera and a 3D camera. This is expected to increase the accuracy of radiation therapy one step further and minimize radiation exposure in normal organs.

In addition, in the case of existing radiation therapy, it is expected that the discomfort of patients who had to draw externally identifiable points or lines on the patient's body to maintain the same posture during each treatment, but can be treated without a special mark by using thermal imaging camera images, which will improve the discomfort of patients who have restricted showers and daily life.

Professor Bae Hoon-sik (clinical director) of the Department of Radiation Oncology introduced new equipment to help patients receive accurate treatment in a more comfortable environment"We expect the introduction of this equipment to play a major role in improving the quality of life of cancer patients" he said.
