Hallym University Dongdong Elastic Heart Hospital conducts training for doctors beyond treatment of high-level brain aneurysms

Professor Park Jung-hyun of neurosurgery at Hallym University's Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital has obtained the qualification as an official educator for blood flow conversion stent installation and brain blood flow blocking (WEB), a new technology for treating brain aneurysms, and Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital is leading the treatment of high-level brain aneurysms.

Brain aneurysms are in a state where some of the walls of the cerebrovascular vessels that supply blood to the brain weaken, resulting in microscopic cracks and swelling like small balloons or kkwa. Brain aneurysms are called time bombs in the head. This is because even if a brain aneurysm occurs, there are no precursor symptoms until it bursts, but the mortality rate exceeds 30% when ruptured, and there is a very high possibility of permanent disability due to serious brain damage.

Previously, the typical treatments for brain aneurysms were clip ligation and coil embolization, but recently, new treatments that compensated for the shortcomings of both treatments but increased the effectiveness of treatment, such as blood flow conversion stent and WEB installation, are drawing attention.

Blood flow conversion stent installation is a method of treatment by inserting a stent into a brain aneurysm to change the direction of blood flow. Despite treatment with a brain aneurysm or coil embolization, which is difficult to treat with coil embolization, it is being actively performed to treat an aneurysm that continues repetition or a large brain aneurysm larger than 10mm.

WEB installation is a method of blocking blood flow by filling WEB, a metal net closely woven with wires, into the brain aneurysm.

It is mainly used to treat branched brain aneurysms that occur at the point where blood vessels diverge, and can also treat acute patients with subarachnoid bleeding due to aneurysm rupture, so it can be used in various situations. However, it is classified as a more advanced procedure because a microductor must be inserted into the brain aneurysm.

Professor Park Jung-hyun of neurosurgery at Hallym University's Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital recently obtained PROCTORSHIP for blood flow conversion stent and WEB dental surgery. Phytocib is a formal certificate paid to doctors who have used the device more than a certain number of times for the spread of blood flow conversion stents and WEB dental procedures, which are new technologies, and who can be educated. A doctor who has been issued a protoship visits the requested hospital when a doctor at another hospital with little or no experience in the treatment instrument requests technical training or plans treatment of brain aneurysm using the instrument. After that, the requested medical staff will participate in the actual procedure together to conduct education and supervision so that the requested medical staff can perform the procedure safely and successfully.

Few doctors have been issued WEB installation proctoships, which have not been introduced in Korea, and very few have obtained both blood flow conversion stent installation and WEB installation proctoships. In addition, in the case of blood flow conversion stent installation proctosib, there are two types of proctosib issued by stent equipment company Medtronic and Striker, and Professor Park acquired both types. Through this, the most suitable stent is used to treat brain aneurysms according to the patient's condition.

Professor Park has performed more than 40 blood flow conversion stents and WEB installations last year, and is conducting education as a phytoster (educator) at various hospitals across the country.

Professor Park Jung-hyun said, "Brain aneurysm is a disease that has no signs of abnormalities until it bursts, so it is best to prevent it through tests in advance." "In particular, regular cerebrovascular tests are required for those in their 50s and older who begin to lose their blood vessel elasticity, and other cases with smoking experience, high blood pressure, family history, and severe headaches are also classified as a risk group."

In addition, Professor Park said, "Brain aneurysm tests are often not confirmed in general CT and MRI tests, so CTA (angiography CT) or MRA (angiography MR) tests to evaluate cerebrovascular and cerebrovascular blood flow are recommended.", he explained.
