The Korea Racing Authority (Chairman Chung Ki-hwan) will hold a 'Reclice unveiling ceremony' to commemorate the establishment of a statue of Jeju Marquis, a patriotic hero who played an active part in the Korean War, on Oct. 26.

Called a patriotic hero, 'Reclis' was a preliminary racehorse preparing for activities at the racetrack in Sinseol-dong, Seoul after liberation. However, when the Korean War broke out, the U.S. Marine Corps purchased 'Reclis' as a military horse in 1952 and put it on a mission to transport supplies to mountainous areas where vehicles were difficult to enter.

Unlike ordinary words that are sensitive to hearing, 'Recliss' did his duty silently without being surprised by the sound of the battlefield's saturation. He took the path he went once by himself, and he was so smart that he returned on his own carrying wounded soldiers on the battlefield that he received the trust and love of the U.S. Marine Corps.

In particular, in March 1953, he helped our troops win by traveling 51 times a day and carrying about 4 tons of ammunition at the front line in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi-do. In response, the Marine Corps named it 'Recless', which means 'He is so brave as to be reckless'. In addition, he was promoted to a soldier rather than an ordinary warhorse and provided special treatment.

Recliss, who traveled to the U.S. with the U.S. Marine Corps after the Armistice Agreement, was loved by many, as he was the first U.S. Marine Corps sergeant to be appointed in late 1959. Since then, he has received various medals, including the Purple Heart Medal and the Presidential Medal, and in 1997, he was selected as one of the top 100 heroes in the United States by the U.S. magazine LIFE, along with George Washington and Lincoln, making headlines.

Starting with the National Marine Corps Museum in Virginia in 2013, six statues were built across the United States, and in 2016, a statue commemorating Reclice was also built in Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do. And on the 26th, the Korea Racing Authority, an organization dedicated to fostering the horse industry, will also present a new statue of 'Reclis' at the horse racing park in Jeju, the home of horses.

The Jeju Headquarters of the Korean Horse Association will promote the excellence of Jeju horses by creating a symbol commemorating the achievements of Jeju horse Leclis who served in the U.S. military during the Korean War," he said.

On the other hand, Let's Run Park Jeju will hold various events such as the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Governor's Grand Prix race, drone light show, and super concerts (We Dam Boyz, Forestella) on the 26th and 27th of the Jeju Horse Festival.
