Korea University Medical Center was in charge of fostering convergent talent to secure a super gap in the biohealth sector in Korea.

Korea University Medical Center recently announced that it has won a 2.5 billion 'AI (Artificial Intelligence) + X field-based digital bio global convergence talent training project' organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The project, headed by Kim Tae-hoon, head of the Medical Research Department (Ethology and Otolaryngology Department at Daean Cancer Hospital), aims to cultivate 22 key digital bio talents over three years through the establishment of a digital bio data major course. Above all, it plans to conduct AI-based convergence research such as dielectric search and verification, target protein discovery and low-molecular treatment design, non-invasive optical coherence tomography (OCT) biopsy, exercise prescription through biomarkers, and physical ability evaluation, and produce practical digital bio research personnel dealing with core medical knowledge and medical data.

The project, designed to revitalize digital bio research, which is in the spotlight because it can drastically reduce cost and time compared to the existing bio research by incorporating digital technology into existing bio research, will be carried out from the second half of this year to the end of 2026. In addition to successful project implementation, Korea University Medical Center plans to create a greater virtuous cycle ripple effect through global joint cooperation with leading overseas universities as well as open innovation with industries.

Vice-President of Medical Affairs Yoon Eul-sik said "Digital bio is a field with infinite possibilities created by adding big data and artificial intelligence (AI) technology to existing bio research. We will do our best to foster convergent digital bio talents, including medical scientists, who determine the success or failure of R&D so that the digital bio ecosystem in Korea can be further enriched" he said.
