A Korean drug offender arrested in Thailand has been controversial for broadcasting live in a detention center and a convoy.

According to local media such as Kaosod Online, two immigration officials in Thailand's Chonburi Province were disciplined for allowing a Korean suspect to broadcast live while in custody.

A Korean man in his 40s was arrested on charges of illegal stay in Chonburi on the 3rd and was escorted to Bangkok, where he broadcasted YouTube live on his smartphone.

In addition, he showed his interior several times through live broadcasts at the detention center and talked with real-time participants.

Footage of arm wrestling with foreigners in custody was also broadcast live.

He lit a cigarette and told live television participants, `I came to Thailand and was sentenced to prison, but the support made me more courageous"I almost escaped from prison because I couldn't stand the beauty of the sea here." he noted.

In addition, he claimed that `because I gave money, I can use my smartphone.' `The police cannot confiscate my phone because no one is not receiving money from me.'

The Pattaya court sentenced A to probation and a fine of 3,000 baht (about 120,000 won) for illegal stay. Prior to his repatriation to Korea, he was transferred to Bangkok's immigration detention center via Bangla Moong Police Station in Chonburi.

Thailand's immigration office suspended two police officers in charge of A and formed a disciplinary committee for negligence in the management of detainees.

Meanwhile, A is accused of smuggling drugs from Thailand into Korea in December 2023.

The Korean police arrested all those involved and seized drugs, but Mr. A had earlier fled to Thailand.
