An opera performed in Germany has been embroiled in a controversy over sensationalism and blasphemy.

According to foreign media such as The Mirror, 18 audiences were carried out during the opera 'Sancta Susanna' performed on the stage of the Staatsoper National Theater in Stuttgart, Germany on the 5th (local time).

The opera, which has an age rating of over 18, features a nun's journey to break free from the oppressive mold. It deals with one's own sexual identity in the process. Originally produced by composer Paul Hindemith, the opera was canceled in 1921 due to unconventional content at the time.

He took the stage for the first time in 103 years, but the controversy remained.

This is because the modern reinterpretation includes women's blatant homosexuality, nun performers' nude inline skating scenes, real blood and body injuries, and piercings.

In particular, the scene where Jesus hits a half-baked nun and the acting of hanging naked on the cross are accused of blasphemy.

When a series of shocking scenes came out, 18 audience members complained of nausea and shock symptoms and received medical treatment at the scene.

Archbishop of Salzburg Franz Lachner said the opera crossed the line of artistic expression and seriously damaged the religious feelings and beliefs of believers" he criticized.

On the other hand, one reviewer commented that "It was such a creative interpretation of the original and showed amazing directing power."It was well received.

The opera 'Susanna' will be performed in Stuttgart, Germany, until November 3.
