Seoul St. Mary's Hospital surpassed 5,000 robotic surgeries for obstetrics and gynecology

The obstetrics and gynecology department at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital of Catholic University achieved 5,000 robotic surgeries.
In particular, robotic myoma and adenomyopathy surgery to preserve the uterus are setting the highest records in Korea.
Since the introduction of the second-generation robotic surgical device 'Davinch S' in 2009, the obstetrics and gynecology department has surpassed 500 cases of uterine myoma resection using a robotic surgical device for the first time in Korea in 2017.
Since then, the hospital has introduced three additional 4th generation 'Davinci Xi' in 2016 and 2018, and one new equipment 'Davinci SP' in September 2021 and one 'Davinci Xi' in June 2024, with a total of five robotic surgery machines, four Xi's and one SP's.
Statistically, uterine myoma and adenomyectomy were the most common with 3,273 cases (67.3%), followed by 749 cases (15%), 478 cases of ovarian cystectomy (9.4%), 360 cases of gynecological cancer (7.2%), and 140 cases (2.8%).
Professor Kim Mi-ran of the obstetrics and gynecology department (director of the uterine myoma center, head of the external cooperation department) achieved 1,000 cases of uterine myoma resection using robots for the first time in Asia in November 2019, and has performed a total of 2035 robotic surgeries as of September, recording the highest performance in Korea. In addition, he was appointed as a 'epic center tutor' by the American Intuitive, a manufacturer of Da Vinci robotic surgical instruments, and is transferring surgical know-how to domestic and foreign medical staff.
On the 7th, the hospital held an event in front of the obstetrics and gynecology outpatient clinic on the 3rd floor of the main building and the operating room on the 5th floor to commemorate the breakthrough of 5,000 obstetrics and gynecology robot surgeries.
