Vicky Evans, who was walking in Hosche Bay near Adelaide, Australia, witnessed a 3-meter-long translucent object, according to local media, including News.
Translucent stems were tangled with shells.
"I haven't seen anything like this in more than 26 years of walking on Hosche Bay Beach," she wrote.
When the photo was posted on social media, netizens said "Is it an alien body?", "I think it'll be dangerous to touch.", "The most bizarre thing I've ever seen on the beach..." expressed interest.
In response, a local resident explained that 'The goose-necked barnacle cluster'.
The goose-necked barnacle is a marine creature characterized by long stems and hard shells that resemble a goose's neck.
Because it consumes plankton, it is mainly found in places where the movement of algae is active.
It also generally lives attached to floating objects on docks or seas.
However, it is unusual to be found in such a large cluster.
Dr. Jo Doubleday, a marine ecologist at the University of South Australia, said "I've never seen anything like it."It seems that the barnacle colony was attached somewhere and then fell off all at once."
