A teenage boy who only ate fast food such as hamburgers and French fries is causing a shock by going blind.

According to foreign media such as the Daily Mail, 12-year-old A, who lives in Massachusetts, USA, suffers from autism and eats only hamburgers, fries, doughnuts, and juice in paper packs due to extreme phobia or reluctance to certain food textures.

He began to have eye problems earlier this year, and his eyesight fell sharply in the morning and evening

Since then, the condition has worsened, and about six weeks after the symptoms appeared, he was unable to walk without relying on his parents, and frequently hit doors and walls.

One night he woke up screaming that he couldn't see.

As a result of the hospital examination, he was diagnosed with optic atrophy.

Doctors explained that his biased diet led to a severe lack of essential nutrients to keep the optic nerve healthy.

Despite supplements and nutritional therapy, the boy became permanently blind.

Children's hospital doctors explained that the boy suffered from eating disorders and avoidance/restrictive food intake disorders (ARFID) that about half of autistic children suffer.

According to the hospital, the boy was born two months early and stayed in an incubator, but had no underlying conditions other than autism and ADHD. However, there were speech, cognitive, and motor disorders.

The boy's parents strongly avoided his son's intake of new food or vitamins."

Doctors determined that the boy had caused severe deficiencies of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, copper, and zinc due to a limited diet, which exacerbated optic atrophy. The case was reported in the American Journal of Medicine.
