A 61-year-old woman succeeded in giving birth in North Macedonia in the Balkans, setting a record for the oldest childbirth in the country. According to foreign media such as West France, a 61-year-old woman was discharged from the hospital on the 26th (local time) after safely giving birth to a baby at a maternity clinic at Skopje University Hospital in North Macedonia. The baby daddy is 65 years old.

Hospital officials said the woman had undergone 10 in vitro artificial insemination (IVF) procedures in the past and was recently successfully pregnant.

He said "The birth of a 61-year-old patient shows that there are no more limits to the medical profession."

The woman was diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes and was closely monitored by the medical staff during pregnancy.

According to official statistics, North Macedonia had a total fertility rate of 1.48 in 2023, which represents the number of children a woman is expected to have in her lifetime. The population is now just 1.8 million, down nearly 10% in less than two decades, according to the latest census data for 2021.
