Just before takeoff, the Indonesian plane's engine caught fire, causing passengers to escape.

According to foreign media such as the Daily Mail, flames and smoke were seen on the plane's engine on the runway of Centani Airport in Jayapura, Papua, Indonesia on the 5th (local time).

The aircraft is a Boeing 737-500 aircraft belonging to Trigana Airlines, Indonesia.

The aircraft, which was the destination of Wamena in Papua, was preparing to take off from the runway when flames poured out of the left engine.

The captain immediately stopped the engine and told the passengers to evacuate.

Passengers in fear opened the emergency exit and escaped on emergency slides.

121 passengers were evacuated safely, but several were injured when they fell or pushed during the escape.

Takeoffs and landings were suspended at Centani Airport for a while in the aftermath of the fire.

Authorities and the airline are investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, the aircraft is known to have been manufactured for 32 years and six months.

The plane, which was delivered from Boeing in May 1992, operated by LOT Poland Airlines before becoming a member of Trigana Airlines in September 2020 after SAS Scandinavian Airlines in 1993.
