A banana work attached to the wall using tape was sold for about 8.7 billion won.

According to NBC and other foreign media, Italian installation artist Maurizio Cattelan's work 'Comedian' was sold for $6.24 million (about 8.73 billion won) at the Sotheby's auction house in New York on the 20th (local time).

The winning bidder is known as Justin Sun, a cryptocurrency entrepreneur from China.

The work is a piece of banana with silver adhesive tape attached to a wall exactly 160cm high from the floor.

The work was first presented by Cattelan at Art Basel Miami Beach in the U.S. in 2019.

Sotheby's auction house said "It was Cattelan's first art fair in 15 years at the time, and his original work received the world's attention."," he said.

During the exhibition at that time, someone took out bananas attached to the wall and ate them.

The estimated price before the auction in New York was estimated to be between $1 million and $1.5 million (about 1.4 billion and 2.1 billion won), but after about six minutes of fierce bidding, it was sold at more than six times the lowest expected price.

The winning bidder will receive one banana and one adhesive tape each, and a guide and a certificate of authenticity will be received to tell you how to replace the bananas whenever they rot.
