According to the investigation, Jang threatened the hotel to report hygiene problems by leaving insects, hair, and dirt in his room.
A chain hotel in Linhai City said it had been extorted 400 yuan (about 78,000 won) for accommodation hygiene issues.
In fact, a survey of his belongings revealed dead cockroaches, cicadas, hair, used condoms, and 23 bundles of paper wrapped in dirt.
There was also a notebook that recorded accommodation, which had a list of more than 380 hotels since November 2023.
The words 'refund' and 'difference compensation' were marked in the hotel.
In response, the police confirmed the damage through on-site visits and phone calls to hotels in more than 20 regions in five regions, including Shanghai, Henan, and Jiangsu. As a result, Jang was found to have extorted a total of 38,000 yuan (about 7.36 million won) from 63 hotels. Police are investigating if there are any additional crimes.
