Completion fee for participation of 700 cardiovascular interventions and surgical symposiums
Nov 27, 2024
"2024 Asia-Pacific Cardiovascular Mediation and Surgery Symposium (APCIS)" ended successfully with 700 participants from 18 countries around the world.
The 'APCIS' held at the Dragon City Hotel in Seoul from the 14th to the 16th was a place where heart experts from all over the world participated to discuss comprehensive cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment.
It was co-hosted by the Uchon Cardiovascular Research Foundation and the Korean Heart Association's Cardiopathology Research Society and sponsored by the Hyewon Medical Foundation Sejong Hospital, the Korean Pediatric Society, and the Korean Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery Association.
This year's APCIS was based on the themes of `Adult Heart Disease' and 'Incheon Heart Disease'.
Participants had a heated discussion on heart failure, cardiomyopathy, heart transplantation and interventional treatment, mechanical support such as adult congenital heart disease (ACHD), heart conduction system, left ventricular assistive device (LVAD) for the heart, nursing specialized in heart disease patients, artificial intelligence (AI) diagnostic techniques, and heart rehabilitation for two nights and three days.
Dr. Heidi Connolly and Dr. William R. Miranda of the Mayo Clinic also participated through real-time online video connections to share their knowledge, citing the development history of the American congenital heart disease clinic, respectively, and emphasizing the effectiveness and necessity of exercise rehabilitation after Fontan surgery, a treatment for congenital heart disease.
The real heart appeared in APCIS this year as usual. Seo Jeong-wook, chairman of the Uchon Cardiovascular Research Foundation, prepared about 150 real hearts from autopsy and heart transplantation for heart sample observation. Real heart observation is a representative difference from other academic conferences.
The medical staff who presented the topic also helped understand the presentation by visually checking the appearance of fiber accumulated inside the heart, the enlarged heart, and white spots (hardened traces) throughout the myocardium, as well as explaining the hardened texture of the real heart.
Artificial intelligence (AI) technology was also included. Speakers from medical AI companies came forward to explain the use of AI technology for chest X-ray and electrocardiogram analysis, while lecturing on the business connection of AI technology in the medical sector.
In particular, '3-Day Seminar', which was the birthplace of APCIS, was also held unchanged during the event. The 3-Day Seminar, which marks its 29th anniversary this year, is an academic conference where cardiologists from around the world divide into teams to review actual patient treatment videos and treatment cases such as surgery and compete for congenital heart disease until late at night.
More than 100 cardiologists working at medical institutions such as Korea, the United States, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia participated in the competitive discussion.
APCIS also focused on strengthening nursing capacity. Nurses from Bucheon Sejong Hospital and Incheon Sejong Hospital, the only heart hospital in Korea, shared on-site know-how by presenting specialized nursing for heart failure patients, post-ventricular assistive device (VAD) implantation surgery, post-heart transplant management in intensive care units (ICUs), and the role of heart failure special nurses in clinical practice.
A two-day special lecture on congenital heart disease and an education program to observe the heart of autopsy were also prepared. More than 200 people, including future generation nurses, Catholic Sangji University and the nursing department of Talent University, participated in the education and exchanged candid questions and answers.
Oh Byung-hee, chairman of the APCIS Organizing Committee (Chairman of Sejong Hospital in Incheon), said "Only when basic and clinical medical education and training are continuously conducted can we provide the highest level of medical services.""APCIS and the 3-Day Seminar have long enhanced the capacity of medical staff in the heart sector. We will continue to lead the development of global cardiology through fierce discussions and case sharing."
Meanwhile, the Uchon Cardiovascular Research Foundation was established in 2013 by Dr. Park Young-kwan, founder of the Hyewon Medical Foundation Sejong Hospital. While hosting and supporting academic and research activities in the cardio-cerebrovascular field such as APCIS, it is providing education support for domestic and foreign medical personnel and support for medical expenses for low-income families at home and abroad. In addition, it operates a heart museum to provide citizens with knowledge about the importance and health of the heart.
