Bears were not real people dressed as bears.
According to foreign media such as The Guardian, an insurance company in the United States recently filed a complaint with the police against four people who committed insurance fraud wearing a bear mask.
Initially, they claimed insurance in January this year, claiming that a bear entered a 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost parked in Lake Arrowhead in the San Bernardino Mountains and damaged the interior of the vehicle.
The suspects also submitted videos to insurance companies of being damaged by bears.
They filed an insurance claim against two luxury vehicles, the 2015 Mercedes G63 AMG and the 2022 Mercedes E350, saying they suffered the same damage on different dates and locations.
However, the insurance company's investigation found that the bear was a non-real person and wore a bear costume.
The insurer asked experts from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to review the footage.
As a result of video analysis, it was determined that it was not an actual bear. The internal damage was also found to have been scratched by suspects using tools, not by the bear's claw marks.
Upon receiving the report, the police found a bear costume in their home.
Police charged the four suspects with insurance fraud and conspiracy.
The prosecution handed the insurance company over to the trial, claiming that the insurance company suffered $141,839 (about 200 million won) due to their fraud.
