According to Chinese media such as China Dotcom, Ku, an anesthesiologist at a hospital in Sichuan Province, injected his girlfriend Chen, who was suffering from insomnia, with propofol more than 20 times in six hours in a hotel room in March.
The two met through an online dating platform in the summer of 2022, and after developing into a relationship, Chen often asked Ku to give her a good night's sleep and asked her to inject propofol.
Then, from 11 p.m. on March 6 to 5 a.m. the next day, Ku injected a total of 1300 mg of propofol into Chen's body more than 20 times. At around 6 a.m., Ku left the hotel alone and left the remaining 100mg of propofol in his room so that Chen could inject alone. After work, Ku returned to the hotel at around 2 p.m. that day, after Chen had already died.
Autopsy revealed that Chen's cause of death was acute propofol poisoning.
The prosecution judged that the defendant Ku had died of gross negligence and demanded a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence.
But the lawyer said `Chen was alive until 8:30 a.m. that dayIt is estimated that Chen died by injecting the remaining 100mg of propofol by himself. Therefore, the prison sentence is excessive.'
It is taken into account that the court is not intentional and has given active compensation to the victim's family"However, providing injections and drugs directly contributed to death. Therefore, he admitted the manslaughter charge and sentenced him to two and a half years in prison.'
