Ewha Medical Center Holds 137th Anniversary Ceremony of Bogu Women's Hall"Medical Institution ahead of its time"

Ewha Womans University Medical Center held a ceremony on October 31 to celebrate the 137th anniversary of the Bogu Women's Hall (普救女 Hall) at Woo Bok-hee Art Hall on the first floor of Ewha Womans University Medical Center.
The ceremony was broadcast in real time on the official YouTube of Ewha Medical Center.
In his welcoming speech, Yoo Kyung-ha, head of Ewha Medical Center, said "The Bogu Women's Center was a medical institution that was equal to everyone, a leading medical institution, a field of education for medical professionals, an institution where the national spirit was alive, a missionary and a relief institution.""The history of women's medical care in Korea, which began at the Bogu Women's Center, is not just the history of Ewha Medical Center, but the history of women's medical care as a whole, it is the history of women's missionary work, and it is the history of women's medical education.""
Founded in October 1887 in Jeong-dong, Seoul, Bogu Women's 普救女 is Korea's first modern women's hospital and women's medical education institution, and is the predecessor of Ewha Womans University Medical School and Ewha Medical Center. At that time, Emperor Gojong of the Joseon Dynasty gave the name 'Boguyeogwan', which means 'where to save women widely', and was called 'House for Many Sick Women' in English.
For 137 years, the spirit of establishing the Bogu Women's Hall 'Service and Sharing' has been passed down to Lillian Haris Memorial Hospital, Dongdaemun Women's Hospital, and Ewha Dongdaemun Hospital (Idaemok-dong Hospital, Ewha Medical Center).
In a congratulatory speech, Ewha Womans University President Kim Eun-mi emphasized that Ewha Medical Center is making outstanding achievements through the establishment of specialized areas such as Ewha Womans Cancer Hospital, Ewha Womans University Urology Hospital, Ewha Womans University Cerebral Vascular Hospital, Ewha University Aortic Vascular Hospital, and Ewha Mother's Baby Hospital.
Prior to the ceremony for Bogu Women's Hall, honorary professor Hwang Kyu-ho of Ewha Womans University's education department held an exhibition opening event titled 「Ehwa's Four Seasons-Ehwa Garden」.
After the 137th anniversary ceremony of Bogu Women's Hall, participants attended the 'Thanksgiving Night for 137th Anniversary of Bogu Women's Hall' event at the convention center on the 2nd basement floor.
