According to Chinese media such as China Dotcom, Lanzhou police in Gansu Province recently arrested Mr. Li for injecting a fake human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. HPV vaccine is a vaccine administered to prevent cervical cancer.
Prior to this, in April, four women reported to the police that they were suspected of fraud, saying that they had been vaccinated with HPV through Lee, but that there was no record of vaccination on the app or online site.
The police later tracked down Lee and arrested him recently.
According to the investigation, Lee kept the vaccine package used as a former nurse separately and added physiological saline instead to make it look like a real vaccine.
Then, on the social platform, 'shock discount', 'special vaccination', and 'limited quantity' were put forward to mislead those who wanted to be inoculated.
In this way, she earned about 100,000 yuan (about 1.2 million won) from more than 160 people over three years.
Police identified 36 of the victims. Many victims did not respond to police investigations for fear of being identified.
Lee also met in or near the hospital halls where she worked to gain trust from vaccinated women.
The police, who are continuing to investigate further, asked "Vaccination should be done at a medical institution.".
