According to Chinese media, including Jimu News, Chen, who lives in Duching County, Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province, held the funeral of a stillborn child in June this year. He asked the funeral staff for a small urn for children.
After putting on makeup, the funeral was carried home with the urn brought by the employee. The urn was free, but the funeral cost was 2,000 yuan (about 380,000 won).
Chen, who visited the hospital shortly after, saw a patient eating in a pot of the same design and color.
Surprised, he took a picture of the pot and compared it to the urn at home, and it was the same.
Also, the label attached to the side of the urn read 'Cooking Pot'.
It was also sold for cooking in online shopping malls.
Angered, Chen reported it to local media and authorities.
He asks for clarification, not compensation"The funeral home should clarify whether this pot was used only for my family or whether it has been used as an urn so far."
In response, the funeral home responded "The remains were procured through appropriate channels"However, the urn, which could be misunderstood, will be discarded and will be discontinued."
Authorities said the funeral home here has been run by individuals so far, but it will be managed by the government starting this month.
He then promised to improve operational practices and implement stricter supervision of the procurement of funeral products.
