Nov 06, 2024

Hallym University Medical Center (Director Kim Yong-sun) won two excellence awards under two themes: 'Environmentally Friendly Management' and 'Multicultural Family Care Services' at the award ceremony held at the International Electronic Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the 5th.

Under the auspices of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service and the Korea Health Industry Promotion Agency, this 'Medical Institution ESG Management Best Practices and Ideas Contest' was held to promote exemplary ESG management of medical institutions and discover excellent ESG ideas.

Hallym University Medical Center was honored with two topics: 'Promoting campaigns to raise awareness of carbon reduction in life and strengthening internal eco-friendly management' and 'Care Services Before and After Multicultural Families'.

◇Taking the lead in eco-friendly management...Contributing to the proliferation of carbon reduction in daily life

First of all, Hallym University Medical Center is the only medical institution to participate in the Carbon Neutrality Point Program promoted by the Korea Environment Corporation since September 2022 to promote a campaign to raise awareness of carbon reduction in life and strengthen internal eco-friendly management. Hallym University Medical Center participated in the "Electronic Receipts Division" among the practical items and issued a total of 16,199 electronic receipts from last year to July this year at the affiliated Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, and Hallym University Dongdong Sacred Heart Hospital, and is leading the Paperless Hospital by paying 771 carbon points to the visitors (subscriber of the carbon neutral practice program).

University hospitals occupy the top ranks of energy-intensive buildings. In response, an electronic dashboard was established to monitor energy usage of Hallym University Medical Center and its affiliated organizations, allowing all faculty and staff to check it, and promoting an enterprise-wide energy-saving policy. Solar power generation facilities are installed in all facilities to supply and demand eco-friendly electricity.

In addition, he is in charge of installing sterilization grinding facilities and on-site verification by participating in the 'Medical Waste Sterilization System Development' project organized by the Ministry of Environment (Korea Technology Development Consortium). While medical waste incinerators across the country are struggling with overload, it is expected to commercialize the development of medical waste treatment technology to reduce odors and additional infections caused by sterile pulverization, and to drastically reduce treatment costs.

In addition, since 2021, it has been promoting a carbon reduction campaign called '減 Tan Campaign'. Through the Persimmon (減) Tan campaign, it is contributing to promoting carbon reduction methods and importance that can be practiced in everyday life, such as ▲ using tumblers instead of disposable cups ▲ discarding waste drugs correctly ▲ using stairs ▲ recycling plastics.

Park Sung-jin, Director of Planning and Coordination at Hallym University Medical Center, said "Hallym University Medical Center has launched an innovation committee in three areas of energy, consumables, and medical materials at its affiliated hospitals from 2022 to promote eco-friendly management and faithfully fulfills the social responsibilities of the university hospital by actively participating in national environmental projects."We will publish an ESG report in the future to advance the ESG management of Hallym University Medical Center and take the lead in the spread of ESG management in the medical community."

◇ Help with the pre-treatment process before and after marriage immigrant women give birth

won the award 'Before and After Childbirth Care Service' at Hallim University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, which has a high concentration of foreigners and multicultural families in Seoul, has been helping marriage immigrant women settle down with the Seoul Metropolitan Government since 2013.

Among many multicultural families in Korea, marriage immigrant women, in particular, suffer from communication, lack of understanding of medical procedures and medical terms, and burden of medical expenses in using medical services before and after childbirth due to lack of Korean language skills.

In response, Hallym University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital is helping married immigrant women to conceive and give birth by training 'VENTO ' who supports interpretation in the entire treatment process. Bento is voluntarily participated by married immigrant women who have had childbirth experience, and participation takes place after learning basic medical knowledge by completing a training program developed by Hallym University Medical Center.

So far, 117 bentos from five countries have been trained to help treat 16,673 married immigrant women, and bentos are even engaged in emotional support activities through empathy. In addition to Hallym University Medical Center, 48 ventos were dispatched to 12 hospitals, including obstetrics and gynecology hospitals, where medical interpretation services are weak, to help 2,107 married immigrant women.

In addition, it operates a childbirth class that provides health information and networks for married immigrant women, and supports health checkups for children from multicultural families and women with financial difficulties. It also carried out various support projects, such as developing a depression prevention program and an interpretation reservation program app.

As a result, Hallym University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital's multicultural family pre- and post-birth care service ranked first in satisfaction with a total score of 99.8 points among the foreign resident support projects organized by Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Choi Kyung-ae, head of the social work team at Hallym University's Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, said, `Multicultural families have difficulty adapting to Korean culture after moving to Korea. Especially in a situation where there are many difficulties due to lack of understanding and discrimination before and after childbirth, the multicultural family's prenatal care service with the Seoul Metropolitan Government has achieved great results"We will contribute to creating a harmonious community culture by continuously developing and promoting various programs for multicultural families."
