Hallym University Medical Center obtains simultaneous certification of the first medical institution 'Medical Data Contents and Management System'

Nov 25, 2024

On October 30, Hallym University Medical Center (Director Kim Yong-sun) received Complex-Type A grade, the highest level of medical data content certification, for the first time in a medical institution from CAS, a data quality certification agency designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Level 4, the highest level of certification in the data management system certification.

Data quality certification is divided into 'Data Content' and 'Data Management System'. After reviewing about 1.45 billion cancer baseline databases and colorectal cancer library data collected by Hallym University Medical Center, CAS gave Complex-Type A, the highest rating for data content certification. The K-CURE database of Hallym University Medical Center, which was reviewed, was built on cancer data collected from five hospitals (Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym University Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital, and Hallym University Dongdong Sacred Heart Hospital) through the data lake cloud platform Hero developed by Hallym University Medical Center in 2022.

Type authentication types are classified according to data quality as well as composition complexity, and Hallym University Medical Center obtained the highest grade, A, for the first time in a medical institution. In particular, the matching rate (the accuracy of data values) recorded 99.9764%, significantly higher than the A-grade standard of 99%. The higher the matching rate, the more consistency and accuracy between data are maintained, maximizing data utilization and obtaining accurate analysis results when conducting related research in the future.

In addition, for the first time as a medical institution, all 88 data quality management evaluation items were evaluated for suitability, and the data management system certification level 4 was obtained. The data management system refers to the process of systematically managing data standards, quality, structures, and connections, and assessments are given based on a total of 18 criteria by applying ISO/IEC international standards and DQC-M screening methods, and certification grades are given from levels 1 to 5. The higher the number, the higher the level of the data management system, and no institution has yet obtained a level 5 rating, so level 4 is currently the highest level of certification.

Seo Young-kyun, director of the Big Data Center at Hallym University Medical Center, said, "Big data is not a choice but a necessity in healthcare, and high-quality big data is more important than big data itself. We will connect disconnected and fragmented data accumulated in medical institutions nationwide through the currently participating 'Medical Data-CORE Clinical Data Network Support Project' and 'K-CURE Clinical Data Network Construction Project' and strengthen a high-quality data management system."

Meanwhile, the Clinical Data Network (K-CURE) is a project organized by the National Cancer Center, which standardizes public and clinical data for 10 carcinomas for each carcinoma to establish high-quality private and public-linked data to create an open research ecosystem for data utilization. The 'K-CURE Baseline Database and Cancer Library', which is being built by Hallym University Medical Center since 2022, is attracting attention as key data that will become a cornerstone of cancer-related research in the future in combination with the cancer public library.
