A man in the United States is shocking his wife and children by pretending to be dead to live with his lover.

Ryan Bogwart, 45, of Wisconsin, went missing in August while kayaking alone in Green Lake, according to the New York Times and other U.S. media.

Upon receiving the report, police found a bag containing overturned kayaks, submerged mobile phones, vehicles in the parking lot, fishing rods, keys, wallets and driver's licenses during the search. A few days later, police assumed Ryan had drowned.

By early October, police had mobilized sniffer dogs and divers to locate his body.

But a strange situation happened.

A record of his use of a passport came out in Canada the day after he was reported missing.

Initially, he was reissued in May, saying he had lost his passport, but it was found that his old passport was still at home and he used a new one from Canada. He was found to have flown from Wisconsin to Eastern Europe via Canada.

The results of the examination of his laptop were also questionable.

Before his disappearance, he moved money to a foreign bank account and purchased an airline prepaid card. In addition, a few months ago, he contacted a woman in Uzbekistan, and in January, he signed up for $375,000 (about 530 million won) in life insurance. It has since been revealed that the insurance money has been withdrawn.

A police official said "He tried to hide his trace by removing the hard drive, erasing the browser history, and changing the email address."

Police suspect he is in Eastern Europe. The police also said that if he pretended to be dead and fled the country even though he was alive, they would charge him with causing a waste of public power and hold him responsible for compensation.
