According to Thai media including Channel 7, a 52-year-old Korean surnamed Kim is suspected of stealing a taxi that was parked near a gas station in Bangkok's Chatuchak district on Oct. 31.
According to CCTV footage from the scene, Kim passed through a gas station and got into the driver's seat of a taxi parked on the shoulder.
Earlier, the taxi driver had entered the convenience store with the engine turned on.
The driver, who was coming out of the convenience store, witnessed Kim driving away with a taxi and reported the theft.
Later, police found a taxi that hit a barrier at a railroad crossing and arrested Kim.
Some media outlets said Kim stumbled as if he were drunk or drugged and was unable to participate in the police interrogation.
The police who searched for Kim found 20,400 baht (about 830,000 won) in cash and passports, and did not find drugs.
According to the police report, Kim arrived in Thailand on Oct. 30, the day before the incident, and planned to return to Korea in March 2025.
