According to The Sun and other foreign media, the fire soared on the Mercedes-Benz subcompact SUV model EQA, which was parked in the yard of a house in Spraton, Northamptonshire, England, at around 10:10 p.m. on September 30 (local time). The fire also caused some damage to a house just a few meters away.
Mercedes-Benz EQA is known to cost about 50,000 pounds (about 90 million won) in the UK.
According to the released CCTV footage, smoke began to flow from underneath the vehicle for a few seconds, and then suddenly the fire soared.
At that time, the vehicle was not even charging. In less than 10 seconds, despite the rain, the fire spread to the bonnet and the windshield.
Scott, the owner of the car in the house, rushed out and struggled to put out the fire.
Neighbors also rushed to help, but in less than a minute, the fire wrapped around the entire car.
"I thought someone was setting off a firecracker, but all of a sudden there was a very loud sound like a bomb going off and flames soared everywhere," Scott recalled. "The fire spread in an instant and came all the way to the car and to my house."," he said.
Firefighters managed to put out the electric car fire because it was difficult to put it out because of the intense heat wave. The fire burned the garage door of the house and the front bedroom was full of smoke and soot" he said.
The fire investigator initially concluded that the vehicle was in such bad condition that it was difficult to determine what the defect was.
Mercedes-Benz said it is difficult to comment because the investigation is ongoing, and that it has decided to lend an alternative vehicle to the Scott family for free.
