It was analyzed that more than 9 out of 10 patients admitted to pediatric and adolescent hospitals after the COVID-19 incident were patients with childhood infectious diseases such as mycoplasma pneumonia, COVID-19, adenovirus, and pertussis.

The Korea Pediatric Youth Hospital Association (formerly the Korea Children's Hospital Association, chairman Choi Yong-jae, head of Uijeongbu Strong Children's Hospital) made the announcement at a press conference on the 16th on the results of a survey on the hospitalization rate of pediatric infected patients answered by 52 pediatric and adolescent hospitals.

According to the data released on this day, 61.5% of the inpatients from January to the present said that the ratio of pediatric infected patients and general patients was 9 to 1. Next, 9.5 to 0.5 17.2%, 8 to 27.6%, 9.8 to 0.25 5.7%, 9.9 to 0.1 and 10 to 0, 7 to 3, and 9.7 to 0.3 were 2%, respectively.

In the case of last year, the rate was lower than this year, but 56.9% were infected patients 9 general patients 1. Next, 9.5 to 0.5 19.7%, 8 to 21 11.8%, 9.8 to 0.24%, 5 to 5, 7 to 3, 10 to 0, and 9.9 to 0.1, were 1.9%, respectively.

Before COVID-19, the number of infected patients in the hospitalization room was about 6 to 4 compared to that of general patients, but after the COVID-19 outbreak, various pediatric infectious diseases are spreading, and the number of patients hospitalized for pediatric infectious diseases is also increasing rapidly, the Korea Pediatric Youth Hospital Association said. "This phenomenon is expected to continue in the future, so preparations are needed for this."

He also urged the government authorities to take active interest and cooperation in order to accommodate the needs of patient carers and resolve complaints, saying, "As a result, complaints from child carers frequently occur."

The largest number of pediatric infectious diseases among hospitalized patients this year was mycoplasma pneumonia. It accounted for 19.9% of the total.

Next, coronavirus 8.3%, adenovirus 8.1%, other viral pneumonia 6.8%, enteritis 5.6%, pertussis, hand-foot-and-mouth 5%, RSV 4.8%, pneumonia 3.9%, parainfluenza 3.6%, bronchitis, rhinovirus 3%, norovirus 2.3%, tonsillitis 2.2%, acute gastroenteritis 1.8%, metapneumovirus 1.5%, urinary tract infection 1.4%, boca virus, bacterial pneumonia, enterovirus enteritis 1%, bronchopneumonia, other, unknown fever, soft tissue.

The proportion of the most hospitalized mycoplasma pneumonia by region was 24.5% in the metropolitan area, 20.9% in the Yeongnam area, 23.1% in the Chungcheong area, and 11.1% in the Honam area.

In this regard, the Korea Pediatric Youth Hospital Association said, `The names of infectious diseases of patients hospitalized for pediatric infectious diseases have been investigated in a wide variety.' `As the emergence and epidemic of pediatric infectious diseases is expected to intensify in the future, the establishment and implementation of strategies to prepare separate countermeasures and countermeasures for pediatric infectious diseases is now essential for the health and growth of children and adolescents, and the government authorities and pediatricians should put their heads together to continue discussing and consulting on a regular basis", he suggested.

In particular, the most demanded improvements by inpatient caregivers were the expansion of actual room fees and the expansion of the number of single-person beds.

In addition, they prepared an isolation room and improved the environment for multi-room children.

When asked if he thought that hospitalization in multiple rooms was appropriate considering the hospitalization rate of pediatric infectious diseases as a doctor, all answered that it was inappropriate.

Choi Yong-jae, president of the Korea Pediatric Youth Hospital, said, "Korea is in an era of ultra-low fertility, and it is possible when the whole country moves forward with one mind to raise the fertility rate. The first step in raising the fertility rate is to create an environment for children's health and growth, which can be realized through the expansion of medical services. Therefore, the government should create a good environment for children through inspection and improvement of the pediatric infectious medical system so that their caregivers can feel free from fear and burden due to the continuous epidemic of pediatric infectious diseases."

On this day, Vice Chairman Kang Eun-sik (Director of Daejeon Bongki Hospital) emphasized, "The front-line pediatric medical site has many difficulties, such as repeatedly understanding and persuading the child's caregivers in the face of realistic situations in which they cannot meet the requirements of pediatric infected patients when they are hospitalized. We desperately hope that the government will listen to the voices of the pediatric medical site and actively work to improve the environment in the hospitalization room of pediatric and adolescent hospitals in a large institutional and policy manner."

Meanwhile, the distribution by region participated in the survey was 15 in the metropolitan area, 7 in the Chungcheong area, 10 in the Honam area, and 20 in the Yeongnam area.
