An elderly man who mistakenly judged that a paramedic had already died in Japan was taken to a hospital later, but he finally died.

According to Japanese media, including the Mainichi Shimbun, emergency services and police in the Handa area of Aichi Prefecture were dispatched to an apartment at around 9:30 a.m. on the 10th.

The apartment manager reported it because he was worried when he saw a pile of newspapers in front of the house of a man in his 70s who lived alone.

The paramedics who entered the house found an elderly man lying down in the bathroom and seemingly lifeless.

After checking for signs of consciousness and breathing, paramedics concluded that the elderly man had died.

The paramedics handed the incident over to the police and left the scene.

But nearly two hours after the initial report, officers found movement in the man's mouth and fingertips.

The police quickly called an ambulance back to take the old man to the hospital.

Paramedics returned to the scene and took the elderly to the hospital while performing CPR, but sadly died that evening.

The next day, the city's fire department apologized for the on-site paramedics' 'misjudgment'.

The official said "It was not supposed to happen. It was a grave error""We instructed paramedics to always use medical equipment such as stethoscopes and blood pressure gauges to check the results." he said.
