Daedong Hospital (Hospital Director Lee Kwang-jae) announced that Park Yoo-young, the head nurse, found a local who lost consciousness due to blocked airways after eating rice cakes, quickly implemented the Heimlich method, and saved his life and received a letter of appreciation from the Busan Dongrae Police Station (chief Yang Young-seok).

After working on duty at around 1 p.m. on August 17, Park Yoo-young, a senior nurse, used a village bus to listen to the buzz of people coming from outside the window on their way home and turned around to find his grandfather sitting unconsciously. Grandfather was drooling with a gray face, and people around him were in a state of panic.

Head nurse Park immediately got off the bus and checked her grandfather's condition, and she felt a strong pulse, and when she saw the leftover Injeolmi wrapping paper next to her, she suspected the airway closure and quickly applied the Heimlich method to start first aid. After that, the rice cakes came out and the grandfather slowly began to regain consciousness. After that, 119 ambulances arrived, and the grandfather, who regained consciousness, regained stability and returned home.

Busan Dongrae Police Station evaluated that accurate first aid played a major role in saving the grandfather's life and awarded a letter of appreciation to Park Yoo-young, a senior nurse.

Park Yoo-young, head nurse of Daedong Hospital's nursing department, said "As a result of gaining abundant clinical experience and strengthening our capabilities through steady education, we were able to keep the golden time and realize the importance of first aid such as the Heimlich method once again."First of all, I'm glad my grandfather came to consciousness, and any medical professional would have acted with me, so thank you for giving me such a letter of appreciation."

On the other hand, Daedong Hospital operates a Basic Life Support (BLS) center certified by the Korea Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Association to contribute to the health of the community and to make perfect initial measures in case of an emergency, and provides regular first aid training for all employees.
