One player was killed and several others were injured when a lightning strike fell during an amateur soccer game in Peru.

According to South American media such as Infobe, a tragic accident occurred at around 4 p.m. on the 3rd (local time) during a soccer game at Koto Koto Stadium in Uankayoshi, Junin, Peru.

At that time, the match between the Jubented Belavista team and the Familia Choca team was underway, but the first half was suspended due to the storm.




As soon as the players tried to leave the ground as the game was suspended, lightning flashed and hit the stadium and several players collapsed on the ground.

In particular, defender Jose Hugo de la Cruz Mesa (39) of the Familia Choca team and goalkeeper Juan Choca were directly struck by lightning.

Jose, who was taken to the hospital, died immediately, and Juan suffered severe burns and is in critical condition.




Four other players are also hospitalized and receiving treatment.

The local soccer community expressed condolences to Jose and his family who died and wished the injured players well.
