Orthodontic devices 'Bracket' to minimize eye discomfort without braces

The orthodontics department at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital is leading a new paradigm of orthodontics with orthodontics without brackets.

The orthodontic method varies depending on the treatment goal, and the correction is mainly made using brackets, transparent correction, flexible devices, and surgery. In particular, orthodontics department at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital can use 'E-WIRE' to correct teeth.

Professor Kim Min-ji of the Department of Orthodontics at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital explained that "wire correction is smaller than bracket correction and has fewer parts attached to the tooth surface, which is advantageous for oral hygiene management."

Bracket is a device that attaches directly to the teeth to install orthodontic wires during orthodontic correction, and is the most representative method of correction, but the correction device is noticeable and difficult to manage.

To compensate for the shortcomings, Ewha Women's University's technology holding company, Ewha Womans University's dental orthodontics department, uses E-WIRE, a patient-specific orthodontics device developed by Wyerliner, to treat them entirely or partially during existing orthodontics.

E-WIRE is composed of thin wires like hair that are directly attached to the necessary teeth. The correction device is not visible on the outside, so it is good from an aesthetic point of view, and there is little pain and foreign body sensation. Unlike bracket correction, it does not require a separate holding device, so it has good price competitiveness.

Professor Kim Min-ji "By correcting teeth using special coating wires, aesthetic wire correction is possible due to less metal exposure. While effectively improving the tooth arrangement with these special wires, it can minimize patients' discomfort because they move their teeth with very little force."

At the treatment site, it is judged that orthodontics for the middle-aged does not require excessive arrangement of teeth in the oral cavity. This is because problems such as unnecessary treatment or excessive expansion of the arch may occur during correction.

Professor Kim Min-ji said "Orthodontic treatment is an important process to improve the arrangement of teeth by considering both aesthetic and functional aspects. Adults and middle-aged people often want only a simple tooth arrangement, so the direction of treatment needs to be simpler"It is important to set orthodontic treatment goals and find ways that suit you through sufficient consultation with experts before treatment"
