According to Newsweek and other foreign media, a jury in a New Mexico court recently decided that the fraud and negligence of the defendant 'Numale Medical Center', a men's health clinic, caused irreversible damage to the plaintiff, a 73-year-old man, and decided to pay $412 million (about 574.6 billion won) in medical negligence compensation.
He is currently unable to stand and urinate, as well as impotence, and has developed permanent scarring and fibrosis in his genital organs.
The incident occurred when A visited one of several branches of Numale Medical Center in 2017, when he was 66.
Suffering from extreme fatigue, he visited a clinic to lose weight.
However, the clinic misdiagnosed it as impotence.
Believing in this, A decided to pay $5,000 (about 7 million won) to receive a treatment program.
The clinic injected male hormones into A's genitals and prescribed medication injections to the genitals at home.
Clinic medical staff also warned that if you don't get the shot three times a week, you'll suffer 'irreversible damage'. However, as the pain got worse and the condition became more serious later, A visited another hospital and it turned out that it was a misdiagnosis at the clinic.
Later, he filed a lawsuit against the clinic.
A's lawyer pointed out that "a licensed professional should not take money for defrauding a patient" and that "this is a very serious violation of the duty of good faith"."
It is not known what final decision the court will make on the jury's judgment, but attention is being paid to the largest amount of medical negligence compensation in the United States ever.
"While we respect the judicial process, we are unable to comment on the specific details of the case at this time due to ongoing legal proceedings," Numale Medical Center said.
Meanwhile, Numale Medical Center operates clinics across the United States, including Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Wisconsin.
