Prior to the expansion of Korea University Ansan Hospital's Life Research Center"Research Capability Qualitative Leap"
Nov 05, 2024
Korea University Ansan Hospital (Hospital Director Kwon Soon-young) held an expansion ceremony for the Medical Life Research Center on the 9th floor of the Future Medical Center on the 4th and started a new leap forward to advance research capabilities.
More than 20 domestic and foreign guests, including Yoon Eul-sik, vice president of medical affairs at Korea University and medical director, Cho Jung-beom, president of Korea University's Guro Hospital, and Jung Hee-jin, president of Korea University's Guro Hospital, attended the relocation ceremony to celebrate the expansion.
The newly expanded Medical Life Research Center is located on the 9th to 11th floors of the Future Medical Center with a total floor area of about 3536㎡. As part of the short-term master plan project in 2021, Korea University Ansan Hospital started the project to expand three floors (9th to 11th floors) of the Future Medical Center, and was approved by the Ministry of Science and ICT last month as an LMO research facility for test research. The site of the existing Medical Life Research Center in the main building of the hospital plans to establish a more pleasant treatment environment through massive outpatient space relocation and remodeling in the future.
The expanded and relocated Medical Life Research Center boasts a 45% increase compared to the previous one. On the 9th floor, research support facilities such as the Medical Research Support Headquarters, the Key Research Project Group, and the Precision Medical Data Center were built, and on the 10th and 11th floors, experimental facilities such as zebrafish breeding rooms, fluorescent image analysis rooms, cell culture rooms, and microbiological labs were mainly arranged.
The research environment was improved by replacing old existing research equipment. In anticipation of the increase in the number of researchers, 27 essential joint research equipment such as flow cytometer and spectrophotometer were added last year, and high-priced equipment related to high-frequency specialized research such as confocal microscopy and animal testing CT was introduced this year. In particular, the size of the facility has been increased by adding one breeding system to the zebrafish breeding room, which has been conducting research on the largest scale in Korea since its opening in 2018.
"Research is a new engine for the leap forward of ancient medical centers with infinite growth ripple effects," said Yoon Eul-sik, vice president and medical director of Korea University. "We look forward to leading the R&D of the Korean medical community beyond the southwestern part of Gyeonggi Province."
Cho Jung-beom, president of Korea University School of Medicine, said, `We will continue to provide maximum support at the school level so that the three hospitals under the Korea Medical Center, including Ansan Hospital, can develop into Korea's leading medical institutions and research institutes" he said.
Director Kwon Soon-young said, `The expansion relocation of the Medical Life Center means a qualitative leap in research capabilities beyond just securing space""We will continue to take strong steps to become a research-oriented hospital by expanding research equipment and improving the research environment." he said.
