Professor Son Hee-joong of Nowon Eulji Hospital won the Asia-Pacific Spine New Technology Association 'Excellent Oral Award'

Professor Son Hee-joong of Orthopedic Surgery at Nowon Eulji University Hospital (Hospital Director Yoo Tak-geun) attended the 2024 Asia-Pacific Spinal New Technology Association (ISASS-AP 2024) held in Yokyakarta, Indonesia, and won the Outstanding Leadership Award.
At the conference, which was hosted by the International Society of Spine (ISASS) and the Indonesian Society of Spine (PCI-IOSS), Professor Son was honored with high praise for "Osteoprosis as a Risk Factor of Dementia in Women: Nationwide Population-based Cohort Study."
Professor Son Hee-joong said, `We found that osteoporosis patients are more prone to dementia, smoking and diabetes increase their risk, while regular exercise lowers the risk.'" osteoporosis has no specific symptoms, but fractures and dementia are more likely to occur if not treated." It is important to diagnose osteoporosis through regular examinations and receive appropriate treatment.'
Professor Son Hee-joong has earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Hanyang University's medical school and graduate school, and is working as a Ph.D. at Seoul National University's Graduate School of Medicine. Patients with osteoporosis and spinal diseases are actively treated.
Meanwhile, the International Society of Spine (ISASS) is the world's most prestigious spine society, involving more than 3,000 spine experts from about 80 countries. Every year, renowned scholars of spinal medicine from each country hold an academic conference to exchange clinical, education, and skills.
