Professor Yoon Jong-hyuk of Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital Wins Outstanding Researcher Award of the Korean Surgical Association
Nov 07, 2024
Professor Yoon Jong-hyuk (Gastrointestinal Surgery) of Cheonan Hospital, affiliated with Soonchunhyang University, recently won the Excellence Researcher Award at the Fall Conference of the Korean Surgical Association held in Grand Hotel Seoul, Switzerland.
Professor Yoon was honored with a clinical research paper 'Lynch Syndrome-Asociated Pathogenic Germline Variants in Patients with Microsatellite Unstable Gastric Cancer'.
The paper contains the results of examining the association between the genetic disease Lynch syndrome, which causes various cancers, and the microcatheter instability gene (MSI-H), a major subtype of gastric cancer, through Whole-Exome Sequencing (WES).
Professor Yoon explained that "the genetic mutation process of germ cells related to lynching syndrome was observed in some patients with MIS-H gastric cancer", and "'Lynching syndrome' has been mainly focused on the risk of colon cancer and endometrial cancer, but this study confirmed that there is a risk of gastric cancer."
He then said "It is a multicenter study conducted with Professor Choi Yoon-young of Suncheon Hyang University Bucheon Hospital that used large-scale data to increase reliability."
The paper was evaluated by the academic community for its contribution to the management and customized treatment of patients with hereditary gastric cancer.
Meanwhile, Professor Yoon Jong-hyuk also presented his research paper 'The Impact of Immuno-Nutritional Status on Postoperative Cancer Compliance in Advanced Gastric Cancer' at the Korean Society of Gastric Cancer 2024's international conference (KINGCA WEEK 2024).
