Sungdong Gwangjin Education Support Office (Director Kim Jin-hyo) invited Professor Lee Ga-ryeong of the Korean Writing Promotion Agency to hold a special lecture for parents under the theme of `Empathy and Communication Open by Reading.'

About 30 representatives of parents from each school attended the lecture on the 4th to share new perspectives on children's education and communication.

Professor Lee Ga-ryeong emphasized that the child's existence itself should be the center of the relationship with the child based on his parenting experience. "Prioritizing education can make a child unhappy", he said, expressing the importance of understanding children first. Sharing the experience of choosing to write a diary and read a book instead of private education in times of financial difficulties, he said, `I feel rewarded with that choice now as I see my children living their lives well.'

Professor Lee emphasized the importance of reading comprehension, which emphasizes the importance of developing learning ability to learn anything rather than having children who will live in the future society learn something that has prospects now. He emphasized the importance of steady reading practice after defining reading comprehension as "the power to grasp the current situation and to clearly know his role in it beyond just the ability to understand writing" and gained sympathy from parents.

The practice conducted during the lecture also received great response. Through the activities of participants reading short texts and expressing their contents in pictures, Professor Lee Ga-ryeong said "When we read print, the hippocampus in the brain moves to form images. But visual images make that activity unnecessary", he explained the risks and limitations of daily life that rely on visual and stimulating images.

The parents who attended the lecture said, `All parents in our school should take this lectureHe expressed high satisfaction, and requested additional invitation lectures. Seongdong Gwangjin Office of Education evaluated "This special lecture for parents was a meaningful time to present a new perspective on education and to awaken the importance of understanding and communication of children through reading."
