Sanofi Korea Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Sanofi) successfully concluded the RSV story contest\ for parents who cared for their children infected with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Sanofi is set to launch its RSV prophylactic antibody injection Vapotus for infants and young children.

The competition, designed to raise awareness of lower respiratory tract diseases caused by RSV infection, was evenly received with various contents and RSV experiences of age groups. According to the stories received, the most common age group of children infected with RSV was 40% for children under 2 months, followed by 33% for children under 24 months. In fact, it is known that the RSV infection rate of infants and toddlers under the age of 2 reaches 90%.

The RSV infection symptoms of children most frequently mentioned by parents participating in this contest were 'Cough Sound Accompanied by wheezing', with 77% of parents sharing their stories about the symptoms. Cough sounds accompanied by wheezing are a typical symptom of RSV infection, and in this case, it is known that the virus can spread to the lower respiratory tract and cause inflammation of the narrow airways leading to the lungs.

In addition, major symptoms of RSV infection in infants and young children were presented with runny nose, stuffy nose, loss of appetite, and fever, and some children were reported to have been hospitalized due to pneumonia and capillary bronchitis. Indeed, RSV is the most common cause of capillary bronchitis and pneumonia in newborns and infants under 1 year of age, and is also the most common cause of hospitalization due to respiratory infections in children in late fall and winter.

Three of the stories received through this contest were reborn as cartoons by Instagram webtoon writer 'Looney Mom' through adaptation. ▲The story of a mother who was hospitalized with her child re-infected with RSV for two months after birth ▲The story of a mother who said she was fully recovered after difficult home care after her 23-month-old child's RSV infection ▲ After visiting three hospitals, the story of an 11-month-old child who was diagnosed with RSV and started hospitalization was reborn as a cartoon. The three selected stories contain various RSV infection symptoms, the importance of RSV prevention, and the vivid images of parents caring for their children infected with RSV.

The cartoons for the story contest were released every other week, starting on October 10. All three cartoons drew great responses on Instagram, and many parents of infants and toddlers left comments of sympathy on the post.
