The world's oldest man, John Alfred Tinniswood of England, has passed away at the age of 112.

Born on August 26, 1912, a few months after the sinking of the Titanic, he died at a nursing home near Liverpool in northwestern England on the 25th (local time) with his family.

He went through two World Wars and served in the British Army during World War II.

Tiniswood became the world's oldest man at the age of 111 after Venezuela's Juan Vicente Perez died this spring at 114. As his birthday passed, he maintained his record at 112.

In his lifetime, he said "I was purely lucky" about the secret of longevity, but advised that moderation was at the heart of a healthy life.

He didn't smoke, rarely drank, and he didn't eat any special menu except to eat fish and chips (long-cut potatoes and fried fish) every Friday.

He also said "If you drink too much, eat too much, or do something too much, you will end up suffering."

He is survived by his daughter Susan, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Blodwen, wife of 44 years, died in 1986.

Meanwhile, the world's oldest and oldest woman is Japan's Itooka Tomiko, who is 116 years old.
