More than 20 customers in a female sauna in China were treated or hospitalized for carbon monoxide symptoms.

According to Chinese media such as Dhawan News, rescue teams were dispatched to a sauna in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, on the afternoon of the 8th due to dizziness, nausea, and vomiting.

"At first, I saw two people faint and thought it was a personal physical problem," one witness said"But after that, several people fainted or vomited one after another," he said.

Another woman said she fainted about 10 minutes after entering the sauna with her friend.

At least 20 people are known to have experienced these symptoms, and carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected.

However, the sauna denied the suspicion of a carbon monoxide leak. It is known that most of the inpatients have been treated and discharged from the hospital.

Police and authorities temporarily closed the sauna and launched an investigation.

Carbon monoxide poisoning, on the other hand, refers to a state of being addicted to carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and non-polar gas caused by incomplete combustion of carbon-containing substances. Inhaled carbon monoxide combines with hemoglobin instead of oxygen, resulting in hypoxia because oxygen cannot be properly transported to each tissue.

Early symptoms of addiction include headache, dizziness, nausea, and if it gets worse, symptoms such as lethargy, coma, seizure, and respiratory paralysis can occur.
