Recently, in Japan, 'infectious erythema', called 'Apple disease', is in vogue, so Japanese health authorities have asked for caution.

Japanese media, including NHK, cited health authorities as saying that the number of infectious erythema patients was 0.89 per medical institution, similar to 2018 when it recorded the highest number in 10 years.

According to Japanese health authorities, the number of infectious erythema patients reported by more than 3,000 medical institutions nationwide for a week until the 1st of this month was 3.49 in Saitama Prefecture, 3.02 in Tokyo, 2.17 in Kanagawa Prefecture, and 2.1 in Chiba Prefecture, followed by 1.68 in Aomori Prefecture and 1.31 in Tochigi Prefecture.

Infectious erythema is an infectious disease caused by the virus (parvovirus B19), which often occurs in infants and children aged 2 to 15 in winter and spring.

In particular, if a pregnant woman is infected, there is a risk of affecting the miscarriage or fetus.

When a pregnant woman is infected for the first time, 6% of the cases lead to miscarriage or stillbirth, and 4% of abnormalities such as fetal anemia or fetal edema occur.

Symptoms are similar to colds, but mild fever (low fever), discomfort, and headache appear for one to two days before the rash occurs.

Although they show relatively minor symptoms, symptoms such as headache, high fever, sore throat, runny nose, eye pain, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and joint pain can be severe in 5-15%.

Infectious erythema has no specific treatment. Symptomatic therapy, which is treated according to symptoms, is mainly performed. If you have itching, take a bath treatment that can be done at home, and if you have joint pain or mild fever, prescribe antipyretic analgesics.

Japanese health authorities said, `Since it is also infected through contact with droplets through coughing or sneezing and using utensils such as infected people, please take measures such as hand washing and wearing a mask while avoiding contact with infected people or people with cold-like symptoms.'
