A school in China has provided fancy meals only to students with excellent grades, sparking controversy over discrimination.

According to Hong Kong media South China Morning Post, Sushi Chengpei High School in Sichuan Province, China, has created a 'Straight A Student Place' on one side of the student cafeteria.

It literally means that it is a space only for students with excellent grades.

The school offered more luxurious lunch boxes and small gifts only to the students with the best overall grades in December exams, the students with the best grades in one subject, and the students who made the greatest progress in each class.

Students with average grades ate at the same restaurant, but there was a difference in the menu from them.

The school recently apologized after the video became controversial as it spread online.

The school said "It was a half-decision that had a negative impact"I will treat all students equally..." he said.

However, one faculty member said "This benefit is only provided once a month after each examination"I don't discriminate against students, just regard academic performance as important" he said.

Voices of criticism continue online, calling it a clear act of discrimination.

Netizens say "Every student has his or her own strengths. Schools should encourage students to shine on their chosen path rather than divide them into classes according to exams", Posting critical comments such as "'Looks more like a company than a school'.

In some, there is no problem in ranking students because the education itself is exam-oriented" There are also reactions in support of the school.
