Ewha University Aortic Vascular Hospital Opens World's First Aortic Vascular Rehabilitation Room
Dec 03, 2024
Ewha Aortic Vascular Hospital held the opening ceremony of the aortic vascular rehabilitation room on the 6th floor of Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital on the 2nd and announced a new start. The opening of an aortic vascular rehabilitation treatment room for patients with aortic disease is the first in Korea as well as in the world.
Rehabilitation after aortic vascular surgery is necessary to speed up the patient's recovery and to prevent cardiovascular disease recurrence and complications. Because aortic vascular surgery places a heavy burden on the cardiovascular system, rehabilitation treatment focuses on restoring cardiopulmonary function and strengthening muscle strength and endurance.
Rehabilitation programs are divided into ▲1 stage (hospitalization) ▲2 stage (outpatient) ▲3 stage (daily) depending on the rehabilitation period, and are designed as individualized programs considering the patient's age, existing diseases, and physical function.
Rehabilitation treatment starts with warm-up exercises including stretching, a mixture of aerobic and muscle exercises according to the patient's condition, and rehabilitation treatment is performed for about an hour, including finishing exercises.
Ewha University Aortic Vascular Hospital plans to open an aortic vascular rehabilitation room to provide treatment services so that patients can return safely to their daily lives and maintain health in the long run through professional treatment and care.
Song Seok-won, director of Ewha University's Aortic Vascular Hospital, said "Rehabilitation treatment after aortic vascular surgery does not just restore physical function, but also plays an important role in lowering recurrence and readmission rates and increasing survival rates.""We will do our best to maintain the patient's long-term health through professional recovery treatment in the rehabilitation room."."
