Dec 26, 2024
Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital (Director Lee Woo-in) obtained the first grade in all the results of the adequacy evaluation of gastric cancer, colon cancer, and lung cancer in the 2nd cycle, released by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service on the 20th.
The adequacy evaluation of gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and lung cancer in the second cycle was conducted for hospitalized patients over 18 years of age who received cancer treatment for primary gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and lung cancer from July 2022 to June 2023 (12 months). As for the target institutions, 146 gastric cancers, 165 colon cancers, and 106 lung cancers who performed cancer treatment and claimed medical expenses participated in the evaluation.
The evaluation indicators consisted of ▲ professional manpower composition ▲ multidisciplinary treatment ratio for cancer patients ▲ proportion of patients who underwent surgery within 30 days after confirmation of cancer ▲ proportion of severe patients among surgical patients ▲ conducting educational counseling for cancer patients ▲ long-term indicators for the number of hospitalization days ▲ surgical mortality ▲ readmission rate within 30 days of discharge after surgery. Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital obtained grade 1 with an average score of all three carcinomas.
Cancer is the number one cause of death in Korea, and cancer mortality by type ranks first in lung cancer, third in colon cancer, and fifth in stomach cancer. The number of cancer cases is also steadily increasing every year due to socio-economic factors such as an aging population, so public interest in diagnosis and treatment is needed.
Director Lee Woo-in said, "As a result of everyone's efforts to improve the system, including a multidisciplinary treatment team,'" and added, "We will continue to strive to improve medical services for cancer patients and to become a hospital that gives trust to patients."," he said.
