A middle school principal who sexually assaulted a teenage girl was sentenced to nine years in prison.

According to Japanese media, including NTV News, the Tokyo District Court sentenced Kitamura (57), the principal of a middle school in Nerima-gu, Tokyo, to nine years in prison for sexually assaulting and injuring a 14-year-old girl at her junior high school.

Kitamura was accused of violating the Child pornography Act last year by storing obscene videos and videos of two teenagers in the middle school principal's office. In addition, quasi-rape and manslaughter charges were added for sexually assaulting and injuring a female student who was 14 years old at the time in 2010 while working as a teacher at another middle school.

In an earlier investigation and trial, Kitamura strongly denied allegations of quasi-rape and manslaughter.

He then argued that `I fell in love with a girl and acted like a beast because I was excited about my emotions' and"I thought I was dating a girl at the time and that the student accepted me.'

The prosecution demanded a 10-year prison term for the defendant Kitamura, saying "a mean crime using hierarchical relationships between teachers and students."
