According to The Sun and other foreign media, a 63-year-old American man who fell while walking on the street visited a hospital in the Bronx, New York, with knee pain.
However, the man, who was undergoing tests, also complained of genital pain.
The examination revealed a rare condition called 'Pine Osteoporosis'.
This is a rare disease in which calcium salts accumulate in the soft tissues of the penis and form extracorporeal bones. It is generally painless and appears as a hard mass on the penis axis.
There are only less than 40 cases of penile ossification recorded in the scientific literature.
Penile ossification is often caused by 'Peyronie's disease'.
Peyroni's disease is a disease that forms hard tissue in the penis, bending the penis and sometimes causing erection.
Generally, it affects men over 40 years of age, but younger men can also get it.
It is known to occur mainly when excessive force is applied during sexual intercourse, or when minor damage to the penis tissue is caused by sports activities or accidents during daily life. It begins with an inflammatory reaction in the early stages, but over time, the scar hardens, causing the penis to lose elasticity and bend, or in severe cases, the angle of bending exceeds 30 degrees. In addition, if blood flow is disrupted, impotence may be accompanied.
What was unusual about the case of a 63-year-old patient was that 'Ossification exists throughout the penis.
This is because only a few of the cases reported so far are known to have undergone ossification.
Medical staff recommended treatment, but the patient left the hospital and did not undergo further examination and follow-up.
The man's case was recently published in 'Urology Case Reports'.
