Chinese media, including Sohu, reported that a court in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region recently sentenced a man named Zhaonan, who was charged with child manslaughter.
According to a police investigation, Zhao was drunk while eating out with his wife and 6-month-old daughter.
After returning home with her family, the wife left her daughter to Zhao and did housework.
Zhao, who was lying on the sofa, ignored the child's crying and complained that his wife did not take care of him properly.
As the couple began arguing, Zhao approached the window of the apartment on the sixth floor with his daughter in his arms.
According to local reports, Zhao stood by the window of the living room and shook his daughter from side to side, arguing with his wife.
At the moment, Zhao missed his daughter from his hand and the child fell out of the sixth floor.
He said in a police investigation that he was drunk and emotional at the time, but he made an excuse that the child slipped out of his hand.
The two found their unconscious daughter downstairs and immediately took her to the hospital, but she finally died.
The cause of death was identified as severe brain injury and traumatic shock due to multiple organ injuries.
Police and prosecutors charged Zhao with murder. But he insisted it was an accident.
The wife also took care of her husband almost every day, such as purchasing high-quality milk powder, food, and daily necessities for her daughter. He bought me toys on the day of the incident, too"I defended my husband.
Prosecutors asked Zhao to serve 10 years in prison on charges of intentional murder.
However, the court judged that he had no motive for murder and that he was guilty of manslaughter, not murder, as he tried to save his life by taking him to the hospital after the incident. He was sentenced to four years in prison.
When netizens pointed out that the punishment is too weak, a lawyer argued that it is probably because of the traditional belief that heavy legal punishment is harsh for parents who are already suffering from the loss of their children.
