According to Australian media such as NewsCom, the 700-kg crocodile 'Bert', which starred with Paul Hogan (85), the main character in the 1986 Australian film 'Crocodile Dundee', passed away on the 23rd (local time).
Burt has lived in the reptilian park 'Crocosaurus Cove' in Darwin, Australia since 2008.
The zoo estimated Burt was 90 years old this year.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the zoo said "We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Bert, Australia's iconic sea crocodile and star of the Australian classic Crocodile Dundee."
Sea crocodiles are one of the largest reptiles on Earth, with an average lifespan of about 70 years, but some are known to live up to 100 years.
In his tribute, the zoo said Burt, who was captured in the Reynolds River in the 1980s, became one of the most famous crocodiles in the world and appeared in Crocodile Dundee to help shape Australia's image as a land of rugged natural beauty and awe-inspiring wildlife," he said.
A zoo spokesperson said "Bert had an independent personality and remained single"
