Musk Loses Weight Due to Weego Bee 'Improving the Price of Obesity Drugs Improve American Health, Lifetime, and Quality of Life''
◇In October, Tesla CEO Elon Musk campaigned for Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump. Yonhap News

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who succeeded in losing weight through the GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1) obesity drug WeGobi developed by Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, insisted on SNS that the price of obesity treatment should be lowered. GLP-1, a hormone-based treatment for obesity that promotes insulin secretion and has an appetite-suppressing effect, which is important for blood sugar control, is gaining popularity worldwide.

On X (X, formerly Twitter) on the 11th, Musk claimed that `nothing can improve the health, lifespan, and quality of life of Americans more than providing GLP inhibitors to the public at a low cost.'

As Musk will lead the Department of Government Efficiency(DOGE) in the Trump administration, which will be launched in January next year, attention is focused on whether GLP-1 will be covered by insurance. Musk did not explain how he would lower the cost of GLP-1. However, in a declaration by Luigi Manzoni, who was arrested for killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, the largest private health insurance company in the United States, he drew attention by posting a section that read, "'The United States has the most expensive healthcare system in the world, but its life expectancy is about 42nd.'"

Analysts say that the Biden administration and Congress are considering applying insurance to weight loss through Medicare (medical assistance for the elderly) and Medicaid (medical assistance for low-income families), which are public health insurance. Currently, GLP-1 is only covered by insurance if it is used to treat diabetes or heart disease.
